Community buildings are some of the best places for solar in Pakistan. A school runs from morning to early afternoon. A mosque’s big loads, fans and ACs, are heaviest around Zuhr and Asr. Water pumps for wuzu run in the day. All of that lines up with when panels produce.
- Daytime classes and prayers line up with solar hours.
- Fans, lights and pumps are easy loads for a hybrid system.
- Batteries can focus on evening prayers and essential lights.
- Phase the project if the budget comes in stages.
Start with the load list
Walk through the building and count:
- Ceiling fans and pedestal fans
- Lights (LED or old tube lights)
- ACs, if any, and their tonnage
- Water pump or motor size
- Sound system, computers, printers, CCTV
- Water cooler or dispenser
Put the numbers into the load calculator for a starting system size.
Cheap wins before solar
Switching old tube lights to LED and old fans to energy-efficient DC or inverter fans can cut the load significantly. That means a smaller, cheaper solar system for the same comfort. Do this first if the budget is tight.
Batteries: where to focus
For a school, a small battery for computers and essential lights during load shedding may be enough. For a mosque, the battery mainly needs to cover Maghrib and Isha: lights, fans and the sound system for an hour or two each. Size for that, not for running ACs all night.
Water pumps
A motor needs a startup surge. Make sure the inverter can handle it, especially if the pump starts while fans are running. Running the pump around midday when solar is strongest keeps the battery free for evening.
Phased projects
Many community projects are funded in stages through donations. A hybrid inverter that allows panels first and batteries later, or a second inverter in parallel later, fits that well. Plan the full system on paper first so each stage connects cleanly.
Commercial and three-phase supply
Larger schools and mosques often have three-phase or commercial connections. A three-phase inverter balances the load properly. Read single vs three-phase inverters to understand the difference.
