When comparing quotes, warranty years are easy to compare on paper. In practice, the question is simpler: if something fails in year three, who will pick up the phone, and how quickly will it be fixed?
- Keep the invoice, serial numbers and installation photos.
- Buy from an authorised dealer with a local service setup.
- Don’t let untrained people open the inverter.
- Follow the installation guide: ventilation, cable sizes, earthing.
Solar panel warranties
Panels usually have two:
- Product warranty, often 12 to 15 years: covers manufacturing defects like delamination, junction box failure or frame problems.
- Performance warranty, often 25 to 30 years: promises the panel will still produce a minimum percentage of its rated power, for example around 80 to 88% at the end.
Performance claims need proof, usually test data showing the panel is below the promised curve. That’s why keeping serial numbers and buying traceable brands matters.
Inverter warranties
Hybrid inverter warranties vary by brand and model. Read what’s covered: parts only, or parts and labour? Repair or replacement? Who pays for transport? Some warranties are void if the inverter is installed without proper protection or in a hot, closed space.
Battery warranties
Lithium battery warranties are often stated in years and sometimes also in cycles or energy throughput, whichever comes first. Check what capacity the battery should still hold at the end of the warranty.
What commonly voids a warranty
- Lightning or surge damage without proper SPDs and earthing
- Water damage from installing an indoor unit outdoors
- Seals broken or the unit opened by an unauthorised technician
- Wrong battery type or wrong settings causing damage
- Overloading far beyond rated capacity
- Missing invoice or serial number mismatch
The local support question
A ten-year warranty from a brand with no presence in Pakistan is worth much less than a shorter warranty backed by a local service team. Ask: where is the service centre, how long do repairs usually take, and is a replacement unit offered while yours is being fixed?
Keep a simple folder
Save the invoice, warranty card, serial numbers of panels, inverter and battery, and a few photos of the installation, including the DC box and earthing. A WhatsApp album works fine. It’ll save you hours if you ever need to claim.
