Winter Is the Smartest Time to Go Solar in Pakistan: 7 Reasons (2026)

Most Pakistanis think about solar in May, when the heat arrives and the electricity bill jumps. That is exactly why winter is the smartest time to install solar. Installers are less busy, you have time to choose properly, and your system is fully running before the summer rush. This winter there is also another reason: gas rationing has already begun.

1. Gas rationing is pushing homes towards electric cooking and heating

Pakistan has started gas load management ahead of winter 2026-27 because of LNG supply risks. Domestic consumers are currently getting gas only at fixed times: 6am to 9am, 12pm to 3pm and 6pm to 9pm (The News, 27 Sep 2026). Many families are adding electric kettles, induction cookers, air fryers and room heaters. That pushes electricity bills up.

A solar system can run these appliances on free daytime energy. Cook lunch on an induction plate, heat water in the afternoon and charge your lithium battery for the evening.

2. Installers are free and stock is easy to get

In summer, everyone wants solar at the same time. Installation dates slip and popular inverter models sell out. In winter you get faster installation, more time with the technical team, and a better chance of getting exactly the model you want.

3. Your system is ready before summer bills arrive

A system installed in November or December has months of running time behind it before the first heatwave. Any settings, wiring or monitoring issues are sorted in cool weather, not in June when you need your AC most.

4. Solar panels work well in cool weather

Solar panels convert sunlight more efficiently when they are cool, because heat reduces panel voltage. Winter days are shorter and smog or fog can cut output on some days, so plan your system on your yearly load, not just one season. Clean panels regularly during smog season. Our guide on solar panel cleaning in Pakistan explains how.

5. Winter load shedding has not gone away

Grid outages still happen in winter, especially in the evening. A hybrid inverter with a LiFePO₄ lithium battery keeps lights, fans, internet and the fridge running without a noisy generator. Work out how long a battery will last with our backup hours guide.

6. Net billing rewards using your own solar

Under NEPRA’s 2026 net billing rules, exported units earn far less than imported units cost. The best value comes from using your solar power at home. Winter electric cooking and heating during the day is a good way to do that. Read what net billing means for your bill.

7. Time to size your system properly

Winter gives you time to check your electricity bills from the whole year and size the inverter and battery correctly, instead of buying in a hurry. Use our inverter size guide or ask our team.
